Climate change is the defining issue of our time, and our aspiration is to help build a more sustainable and inclusive future while working in partnership with others.
Decarbonizing our operations
We are committed to achieving net-zero climate impact by 2030. As a critical milestone on that journey, we have set realistic targets that have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative in line with a 1.5-degree pathway. Achieving these commitments and lowering our firm's carbon footprint requires taking a multi-pronged approach across all scopes.
We are reducing our absolute emissions from vehicles and offices by 25 percent (Scope 1 and 2) mainly through electrifying our firm-owned vehicles, introducing alternative mobility packages, transitioning to 100 percent renewable electricity, and making our global office space more sustainable.
Reducing travel and encouraging hybrid working models
Travel is the biggest component of our emissions, accounting for 85 percent of our 2021 footprint. As a result, we are fully embracing hybrid-working environments. Teams across the various regions are implementing alternative working models that are not only more environmentally sustainable, but also more inclusive, and productive, and result in a better experience—both for colleagues and clients. We are also offering alternative mobility and travel options, such as rail travel and “stay-the-weekend” choices to reduce our travel footprint.
Making our regional office spaces sustainable
We target only the highest standards for new offices and major renovations. 46 percent of our office space is LEED Gold or Platinum certified. We are also committed to minimizing our office waste through activities like reducing single-use plastic and expanding our recycling programs, including those for electronics.
Accelerating progress through partnerships
Partnering with others is key to scaling the solutions we collectively need. We work with our clients, peer organizations, nonprofits, and other partners to support a transition to net-zero emissions, help scale high-impact environmental efforts with nonprofits through pro bono support, as well as embedding sustainability into our processes, encourage our key suppliers to make their operations more sustainable.
We partner in multi-year projects to support and scale ambitious conservation initiatives that help protect nature and reduce the loss of biodiversity.
